Migraine Awareness Month #7 – Pretty Woman

What do you do to look good when you feel like crap?

Really, if I’m home, I don’t much care how I look.  However, I’m not much of a pajama wearer except when it’s time to sleep.  My family knows I must be feeling pretty rotten if I’m in the jammies, and it’s daytime.

Up until a few months ago, I’d quit wearing makeup for over a year.  This from a girl who wore Cover Girl from the age of twelve!  Part of the reason I stopped was because Botox caused my eyelid to droop and mascara would imprint itself all over the area below the brow.  But then I read an article in the Oprah Magazine a few months back.  In it, a woman who suffers from severe depression decided to put the cart before the horse by forcing herself to shower more often, don make-up and dress nicely.  Indeed she discovered that performing those rituals actually improved her mental health.  So I decided to wear make-up again, and it does ibring about a better feeling about myself.

Sure there are times when even a designer dress and major styling wouldn’t make a darn difference.  For the most part though, I think it’s worth the try to make an effort. Wasn’t it Billy Crystal playing Fernando Lamas on Saturday Night Live who said “To look good is to feel good.” (?)  And the ever famous, “You look mahvelous!”  I think that’s a good mantra to use on myself when I’m having one those hell-to-the-no crappy days.
