Migraine Awareness Month #5

Subtitle:  “Do That to Me One More Time”

What comfort measure do you find helps you enough during a migraine that you go back to it again and again and how do you use it?

My biggest comfort aside from medications are ice packs! Wonderful blue, large- sized and very flexible ice packs made by Ortho Med, Inc. in Portland, OR.  There website is http://www.orthomedinc.com (they are also interchangeable and can be used as heat therapy wraps)

Here’s my disclaimer:  I don’t own stock in the company nor do I get any commission from them.  They don’t know me, but maybe they should because I own five and the ice packs are on my head quite a lot.

The ice pack is wrapped in a towel, and it sits atop my head.  I call it my “ice hat”.  It’s large enough to drape down on each side to cover both temples.  Sometimes I pull it down near my eyes so it serves as a comfort measure as well as a light blocker.

These ice packs travel with me.  I’ve had them on in the car as a passenger, and am sure I received some crazy looks.  Oh well.  The only drawback to bringing my ice packs on a vacation with lots of people is that sometimes they use them without asking.  If it’s for an ache or pain, I’m all for sharing.  But for keeping crab cold?  Oh no no.  I don’t think so.  I believe I sacrificed that one.  Didn’t want to wear a crab smelling ice pack.  No thank you.  I now keep the bags tied up in a plastic grocery sack, and hope no one gets into those anymore!

The ice packs are soothing to me even if they don’t alleviate the migraine.  I feel lost without them.  What comfort measures do you employ when dealing with migraine?
